Nanoengineering for Mechanobiology
abstract
Single cells inside living organisms are extremely dynamic, continuously adapting to physical and chemical cues of the underlying environment. In this context,the focus of Mechanobiologyis to understand how mechanical stimuli (forces and stresses) and properties (i.e. rigidity and viscosity) can influence the physiology and pathology of the cell. An interdisciplinary effort between physics engineering and biology is required to address this general aim, and the seminar will discuss some recent advancement in the field, particularly concentratingon innovative nanoengineering tools to characterize cell mechanics.
